Holds up better than i expected, on a recent watch. The performances are great, the tension is well-written, and the premise still seems somewhat believable. But after years of painful (and embarrassing) LLM/AI consciousness discourse, the obvious groan moment in the story has moved ahead several minutes to when the gullible mark says he's already changed the code, long before the robot leaves them trapped behind locked doors. I think the moral of the story was probably always "Neither being sad nor being horny are good reasons to start skynet" to complement the original skynet moral of "Curiosity is not a good reason to start skynet" but it's interesting how much less sympathetic the heedless kid seems now that we're surrounded by AI being used for the absolute dumbest shit all the time.
