The Gem Score is a 100-point score awarded to vetted independent films. It takes into account select critics' response, fan response, and awards nominations and wins from organizations like Film Independent, GLAAD, and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
In general, a Gem Score of 80+ signals an outstanding, must-watch film for anyone who considers themselves an indie-film connoisseur.
A gem score with a gray circle around it indicates the film is not a vetted indie. This is usually a studio-financed film or a film without notable festival placement.
